Nature, history, fairy tales! Oyabe City in Toyama Prefecture conducts an invitation project for “French cosplayers”

Oyabe City in Toyama Prefecture, also known as the local characters Mergiu-kun and Melmomo-chan, held a community-based event “Oyabe Fairy Tale Party” inviting idols and cosplayers on 3/24 (Sat) and 25 (Sun).

Oyabe spells for 2 days!

Blessed with good weather, it was crowded with many people for 2 days. In addition to talk shows with popular voice actors, including the role of Sanji in the anime “ONE PIECE” and Mr. Hiroaki Hirata, famous for his role as Jack Sparrow in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean,” there were plenty of attractive contents such as special performances of “Real Escape Game” and collaboration projects with “Attack on Titan,” so many people gathered not only from all over Japan but also from overseas.

Global influencers have landed in Oyabe!

At Japan Promotion, I was in charge of coordination and operation support for the “Oyabe City French Sightseeing Tour” as part of an invitation project aimed at disseminating the various charms of Oyabe City to domestic and international fans with a high interest in J-pop culture and attracting tourists.

We have selected 3 French cosplayers who are charismatic and popular even among enthusiastic Japanese fans.
Of course, visitors to the Japan Expo Paris are influencers with SNS followers all over the world.

The gorgeous appearance of the cosplayers, who are also active as models, had such an impact that all passers-by looked back on it. Thanks in part to that, it attracted a lot of attention from citizens, and many scenes of interaction full of smiles were created.
Also, there is a scene where the voice actor Hirata Hiroaki (as Sanji), who is a big ONE PIECE fan and admires, directly calls out, and they are so moved that they burst into tears.

Disseminate the appeal of Oyabe City to the world on SNS!

The three, who are hardcore Japanese connoisseurs and unrivaled travel lovers, spent 2 days energetically strolling around Instagrammable spots unique to Oyabe City, and uploaded high-quality cosplay photos to SNS one after another.
The moments they posted at Oyabe City's rich nature and historical heritage sites received many “likes!” It was collected and continues to be spread all over the world even now, even after the event ended.

This event, which was the first test for Oyabe City, not only left a big impact on citizens as an effort to revitalize the region, but it also resulted in widely appealing the developed form of “Hokuriku entertainment center” both domestically and internationally through easy access from neighboring cities such as Kanazawa and full venue facilities.
Also, during the two-day interaction with tour participants, it seems that it was a big harvest that we were able to hear many honest opinions that serve as hints for future efforts to attract tourists.

Japan Promotion cooperates with local governments, administrative agencies, and various travel companies in each prefecture to support regional development efforts in various forms, starting with attracting inbound customers and branding local products.
