2025 “Manga Barcelona” Event Report | Response that surpasses last year!

The event “Manga Barcelona (Manga Barcelona)” is held every December in Barcelona, Spain. At this event held in Barcelona right in the middle of the Christmas season, the Japanese culture pavilion “NAGOMI (Nagomi)” was realized this year through collaboration between the organizer and Japan Promotion! The number of visitors surpassed last year when it first appeared.
Manga Barcelona is now in its 31st year. It's a cultural event that transcends generations, where visitors who used to be children are now bringing their own children.
The scale has expanded with each passing year, and now more than 160,000 people visit every year as an exhibition where you can experience not only manga and anime, but also various Japanese culture, such as touching Japanese cuisine and learning Japanese.
■Event Overview
Event name: 31st Manga Barcelona (Manga Barcelona)
Period: 2025/12/5 (Friday) to 12/8 (Monday/holiday)

This event received the Medallas de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (Medallas de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes) from the Spanish Ministry of Culture last year to commemorate the 30th anniversary. Ernesto Ultasun Domenech, the current Minister of Culture, also attended this year's opening ceremony and celebrated the opening of an event representing Japanese culture in Spain.
On the stage where gorgeous guests are invited every year, this year's anime theme song, Aina the End, will appear! Also, Kumamon, who boasts unwavering popularity as a local character, participated in the event as a special guest and showed off not only dancing on stage, but also cooking skills at the workshop.

At the venue, Nintendo will have a large booth where you can experience Switch 2, which attracted a lot of attention this year. Big Luffy with “Gear 5” in action and the 50th anniversary of his birth (!) My Melody, which celebrates, etc., also attracted attention.
In addition to this subculture, there are Japanese workshops where you can learn hiragana and katakana, a Japanese food corner where you can watch Japanese sweets making, and even a space where you can experience martial arts such as kendo and naginata, so much so you can't fully enjoy it in a day. A wide range of visitors, young and old, enjoyed Japanese culture.

The Japanese culture pavilion “NAGOMI (Nagomi)” first appeared last year with an offer from the organizer to “provide visitors with a more authentic cultural experience.”
In response to the previous response, which can be said to be enthusiastic, this year, which is the second time, the scale was expanded to about 2 times that of last year.

Inside the pavilion, artists who participated from Japan sell a variety of high-quality works unique to Japan, from accessories that arrange traditional crafts such as mizubiki and tsumami zaiku, to ceramics, calligraphy, handicrafts, and goods that make you feel the “kawaii” culture. Also, in addition to local governments such as Hiroshima Prefecture and Kagawa Prefecture, which aim to attract inbound customers from Spain, business groups from Tsubamesanjo, known for their cutlery, also exhibited, raising awareness in Spain and developing further locally.

The NAGOMI pavilion, where you can directly communicate with artists and shop while digging deep into the appeal and background of those items, was crowded with many people every day this year as well. When it's busy, it's so difficult to walk straight.
The items lined up in the pavilion include “Everything is beautiful, I want them all!” “Every detail is meticulous and wonderful,” and there were many voices of praise for its high quality. There are also words of gratitude to the exhibitors from Japan for “protecting and conveying Japanese traditions and culture.” They seemed moved by the spirit of hospitality, saying, “They transcended language barriers and treated me with care.”
The visitors said, “I can't believe there was such a wonderful place at this event!” Not only are there first-time users, but over half of the customers say, “I love the accessories I bought last year, so I'm back!”※NAGOMI visitor questionnaire survey
There are also many people who come back repeatedly during the period, saying “because my family is envious of what I bought yesterday.” I can tell you how satisfied the visitors are.

As an area that conveys high quality Japanese culture, NAGOMI is receiving a high level of attention from organizers and local consulates. It was seen that members of the organizing team took a break from their busy schedule during the exhibition and visited many times. The consul-general and consulate staff of the local Japanese consulate who came to the opening ceremony also enjoyed shopping for “authentic Japanese” items that cannot usually be found in Barcelona.

The next Manga Barcelona event is scheduled to be held from 2026/12/5 (Sat) to 8 (Tuesday/Holiday).
With Monday's substitute holiday in between, there are a whopping 4 consecutive local holidays! Further excitement is expected.
Also, “I want it to continue every year” and “I want it to be a bigger pavilion!” Of course, the NAGOMI pavilion, which received a huge response this year, is also scheduled to be developed.
