Europe's largest Japanese event “Japan Expo Paris (Japan Expo Paris)” was held in Paris again this year. French President Macron also visited, and it was once again shown that this is a cultural event that is attracting attention from France as a whole.
At the 1,500-square-meter traditional Japanese culture pavilion “WABI SABI (WABI SABI)” located in Hall 5, 95 groups of artists and companies presented creative, high-quality Japanese craftsmanship, food culture, and art this year as well.

It was a great success this year too! The Japanese fans who have been waiting impatiently are enthusiastic

The Japan Expo attracts Japanese fans from all over Europe, regardless of age or gender.

Many people attended the current session, which was held at the same time as summer vacation began for French schools. In addition to Mr. Junji Ito, a horror manga artist representing Japan, gorgeous guests from Japan, such as the comedy duo “Chocolate Planet,” which is expanding their range of activities overseas as the “TT Brothers,” and the eternal hit singer Yoko Takahashi also visited and enlivened the venue.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the “WABI SABI Pavilion”

The only Japanese traditional culture pavilion “WABI SABI,” which attracts many fans every year, is supported by its popularity, and this year is finally celebrating its 15th anniversary. The venue was decorated with the theme of “Wind God and Raijin,” which prays for the further prosperity of Japanese manufacturing, and visitors were welcomed along with 95 groups of product sales and workshop booths and 21 stage performance groups.

WABI SABI, where you can shop while interacting with artists from Japan and experience Japanese culture such as calligraphy and tea ceremony, was once again crowded with many visitors.

Disseminating a diverse culture

WABI SABI is highly regarded for being able to experience high-quality Japanese cultural content. This year, too, we started a demonstration sale of Chiba Prefecture's traditional craft “Boshu fan,” and it was crowded with booths of a wide range of genres, from traditional things such as gagaku and sashiko to Shiba Inu goods popular in France, unique accessories, and foods such as monaka and matcha.

Another characteristic of WABI SABI is that there are many repeat visitors. “I bought this product 6 years ago, and I still use it with care!” They said, “I'm glad we met again this year!” They were delighted to be reunited with the artist, and a heartwarming exchange over a distance of 10,000 kilometers was born.

VIP and other events are also in the spotlight

WABI SABI, which conveys authentic Japanese culture, received support from the Embassy of Japan in France again this year, and Minister of Public Relations and Culture Yamaya also visited during the exhibition.

The popularity of Japanese culture is not limited to France alone. The Italian design exhibition organizer and the organizer of the Japanese event “Manga Barcelona” in Spain also visited WABI SABI for inspection and renewed their motivation for a full-scale Japanese culture exhibition in their own country.

Breaking the record for the highest sales! Visitors' reactions

The visitors were intrigued by the delicate and unique Japanese craftsmanship and culture that can only be found here. The result for the entire pavilion was even higher than the highest sales record set last year!
Even in a questionnaire conducted for visitors, “It's a really wonderful opportunity to experience Japanese craftsmanship and artists' creativity” and “Thank you for coming all the way to France!” Words of gratitude to the exhibitors were lined up.

As the saying goes, “Everything is so beautiful that I want it all,” there are also people who go back and forth in the pavilion many times and visit for several days. This year, too, many people said, “WABI Sabi is their favorite place at the Japan Expo.”
