Fukui City's local character “Asakura Yumemaru” travels to France

I'm the Echizen Fukui advertising team leader!

Asakura Yumemaru-kun is a fairy character who lives at the nationally designated special historic site “Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins” in Fukui City. The helmet, which is characteristic of the style of warlords in the Sengoku period, is modeled after the Karamon Gate, which is also a symbol of the ruins.
His dream is to spread the splendor of the Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins to the world. Yumemaru-kun is about to leave for France, and his eyes are shining brightly. At the Japan Expo, they will perform on the official main stage and the WABI SABI art stage to promote the appeal of Fukui City.

Starting with Kumamoto Prefecture's sales manager Kumamon (left), there will also be gorgeous co-performances with local characters who are already active at the Japan Expo, such as Mergiu-kun and Melmomo-chan (center) from Oyabe City, Toyama Prefecture.
Karamon is a symbol of the Ichijodani Asakura Clan ruins. Asakura Yumemaru-kun's helmet design was modeled after this gate.

Japan's Pompeii “Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins”

Raise the city and restore the townscape from the Sengoku period.

The Ichijodani Asakura Clan ruins associated with Asakura Yumemaru-kun are the ruins of a castle town where the Sengoku daimyo Asakura clan ruled Echizen Province for 5 to 103 years.
After the Asakura clan was destroyed by Oda Nobunaga, the town declined as it was, and it was buried in sediment and fields just like the ancient city of Pompeii.
Then, about 500 years later, in Showa 42 (1967), everything was excavated in an almost perfect state, up to the owner's house, samurai houses, townhouses, craftsman's houses, and roads. The townscape restoration project is currently underway, and it is famous as a rare historical heritage site in the world.
The “Echizen Asakura Sengoku Festival,” which is held here every August, is also one of the major highlights. A brave procession of warlords recreating the Asakura and Asai allied forces unfolds.

A new challenge to attract inbound customers

The “Atagoza Zaka Lantern Corridor” has beautiful Echizen Japanese candles.

In addition to attracting tourists, mainly at this major site, the “Echizen Asakura Mantouya” held every August, “Echizen Japanese Candles,” which are also known for decorating the “Atagoza Sakato Corridor” with clean lights, and traditional crafts such as Echizen washi will be exhibited, and the landscape and culture unique to Fukui City will be exhibited.
Mayor Higashimura Shinichi of Fukui City anticipated the depth of interest in Japanese culture and long-term stay trends among European tourists, starting with France, at a press conference on 5/29 (Monday), and stated “I want to attract inbound customers.”
Japan Expo Paris is one month away. Please pay attention to the further activities of Asakura Yumemaru-kun and Fukui City.
