Two mascot characters from Toyama prefecture go to Paris

The mascot characters played a big part at the 2016 Japan Expo Paris.
Many mascot characters with a major mission of regional PR will appear, such as being selected for the “Japan Contents Overseas Expansion Promotion Project.”
Traditional Culture Pavilion “WABI-SABI”Inside and outside, stage shows will be performed, life-size panels will be displayed, tourist site videos will be shown, historical culture will be introduced, and specialty products will be sold.
The representative of Namerikawa in Toyama prefecture is “Kirarin” (left). She is an energetic girl born based on the concept of the famous firefly squid.
The representatives of Oyabe City are “Mergiu-kun” (center) and “Melmomo-chan” (right). They are the couple's characters, likened to cows at the traditional festival “Genpei Fire Cow Festival.”
The Hokuriku Shinkansen just opened in Toyama Prefecture last year in 2015. The appeal of 2 groups and 3 mascot characters being exhibited from the same prefecture is outstanding. It aims to disseminate the appeal of Toyama, attract foreign tourists and induce interest in culture and industry.
The expansion into Paris was reported in the Yomiuri/Chunichi/Mainichi Newspapers, and enthusiasm for the event was discussed.
