Ueno Onshi Park opened in 1876 (Meiji 9) as Japan's first park. The Ueno Royal Museum, which is one of its core institutions, was opened in 1972 (Showa 47) after refurbishing the equipment of the Japan Art Association's art exhibition hall. Since Prince Arisugawa Taruhito was appointed president of the association's predecessor organization “Ryuchi-kai,” the royal family has served for generations.
At the “Royal Museum,” which represents Japan, Japan Promotion will simultaneously hold solo exhibitions by 2 artists active on domestic and international stages. Over 800 visitors were recorded during the three days of the exhibition.

Emiko Hesaka solo exhibition “Driven by Dreams”

On the 2nd floor, textile artist Emiko Hesaka introduced colorful works inspired by the beauty of the four seasons.

A world of color with cloth unique to Mr. Hesaka, developed using space leisurely

Mr. Hesaka expresses the natural beauty of his hometown Hokkaido, seasonal scenery, and his own delicate feelings using a wide variety of dyeing techniques that have been handed down in Japan since ancient times. The pure and expressive color patterns, like paint swaying on the surface of the water, resonate with each other and create a splendid harmony reminiscent of the movement of light, wind, and water. Mr. Hesaka's group of works, which elaborate on each expression and continues to explore new possibilities while enjoying unexpected coincidences and discoveries, gave people a deep impression and invited them on a fantastic journey of color.
