Taiwan's interest in art is growing along with its remarkable economic development. The group exhibition “JAPAN ART WEEK in Breeze” was held for about 2 weeks at “Breeze Center (Breeze Center)” located in Taipei, the center of Taiwanese culture transmission. I will look back on the session, which was full of heartwarming encounters.

A step towards deepening ties between Japan and Taiwan
Not only do they have deep historical relationships, but they are also economically important partners, with about 3000 Japanese companies entering the market, and if you walk around the city (including things that are a bit suspicious), there is plenty of Japanese in Taiwan. The Japan Art Group Exhibition “JAPAN ART WEEK in Breeze” hosted by “Kinokuniya Bookstore (Taiwan),” which can be said to be the cornerstone of disseminating Japanese culture, was held in this area, which has a close relationship with Japan.

The first session has an atmosphere like a solo exhibition
This exhibition was held over 2 sessions. The event space on the 8th floor of “Breeze Plaza,” which has a profound wall, has been transformed into an ideal space for art exhibitions.
In the first session, we used plenty of booths and introduced 5 artists. There was also the location of a department store, and visitors were not only art collectors, but also diverse people, such as business owners and people working in trade-related work, and thoroughly enjoyed the world view of each artist. Some of them spoke fluent Japanese when they were studying at a Japanese university.

The second session introduced various genres
Fortunately, the 2nd session, which was in danger of being hit directly by the typhoon, was held without major weather collapse, and it was completely different from the first session, and works by a total of 30 artists were introduced. Due to its high degree of perfection, “the level is higher than other exhibitions seen in Taiwan!” There is also a scene where they are praised. Taiwan and Japan only share a lot of culture, starting with letters, so it was impressive how the visitors were able to deeply understand the explanations of the works from the artists and staff.

Bringing Japanese art to more people!
At the opening party held on the first day of each session, in addition to calligraphy performances by artists, Japanese-style content such as sake, matcha, Japanese sweets, and kimono experiences was prepared to entertain visitors. Many people celebrated the opening of the new event, with local Instagrammers also visiting as invited guests to the department store.
Also, at “Kinokuniya Bookstore,” which is located on the 5th floor and is the organizer of the exhibition, there is also a pop-up space that sells artist goods. People other than art fans were interested and stopped by the artist's demonstration that took place at the store.

You can find Japanese food and drink chains all over Taipei, such as Mos Burger and Ootoya. On the other hand, traditional food stalls and snack shops are still alive and well, and it was a town full of exoticism, which made me feel somewhat nostalgic.
Japan and Taiwan have strong ties in many ways. We hope that we will continue to help deepen this bond through art.
