New York, a city where art gathers from around the world

Famous art areas such as Chelsea, Soho, and the Lower East Side are always lined with cutting-edge works, and diverse expressions from contemporary art to street culture are alive. Among New York, what is currently attracting attention is Tribeca in southern Manhattan.

Once known as a corner of the financial district, this area now has a sophisticated appeal as an upscale residential area where Hollywood stars and famous creators live, and the town is lined with tasteful shops, popular cafes, and restaurants.

And now, Tribeca is rapidly evolving as a new center for art. Galleries that stimulate the senses have sprung up one after another in the cityscape where historic buildings and modern skyscrapers coexist, and an art scene full of quiet enthusiasm is unfolding.

“One Art Space Gallery” is located at the center of it.
Through exhibitions that combine diversity and creativity, this gallery shows the changing present state of Tribeca and brings new inspiration to visitors.

The world of pointillism mandalas where mythology and space intersect

At One Art Space Gallery, a solo exhibition by Akiko Sasagawa was held in April 2023, when two and a half years of the COVID-19 pandemic passed.
It is “Each Universe ~Precision Pointillism Mandala~” by artist Sasakawa, who expresses the universe, the inner world of the mind, and ancient mythology through mandala works drawn with delicate points.

Most of the works are mandalas based on Buddhist and Esoteric Buddhism ideas reconstructed with a modern sensibility, and each point brings together precise points to create a world where a sea of colors unfolds. The work, which takes 300 to 600 hours per picture, contains a desire to deliver quiet healing and hope to the viewer's heart.

In this solo exhibition, works created with motifs of gods appearing in the Japanese mythology “Kojiki” are on display. The “hospitality” and “subtlety” that dwells in the hearts of Japanese people are carefully expressed through pointillism.
