A monochrome world where traditional and modern sensitivities quietly intersect.

Miyauchi Katsuhiro's collection of works “Maiko Tsurezure” is a collection of precious photographs that capture the everyday lives of geisha living in the streets of Kyoto, such as Gion and Miyagawa-cho, from a poetic point of view.
What is depicted there is not a glamorous stage appearance, but a real face that can be caught in an accidental moment. In the emotions and delicate movements and gaze of sunlight and shadows, the viewer forgets time and is invited into a fantastic world.

Every composition and angle has meaning, and the beauty that can only be expressed in photographs stands out on the screen where unnecessary things have been removed.

With H.C. = Bresson's philosophy in mind, the gaze of Mr. Miyauchi captures the “decisive moment” with a keen eye for observation and sharpened sensibility. Through this lens, we can encounter the deeper and richer human beauty that lies behind the existence of geimaiko.
