Forum des Halles, which was the setting, is a huge shopping mall built in 1979 on the site of the former central market and attracted attention due to large-scale renewal in 2016. In addition to 150 commercial facilities, public cultural facilities such as conservatoires (academies of music and drama) and mediatheques, famous brasseries and restaurants also have multiple tenants, and it is a popular spot where the flow of people never stops throughout the year. There are many metro and multiple RER lines, and since it is directly connected to Les Halles station, which has the largest number of passengers in Paris, not only Parisians but also many tourists come and go from morning to night.

In the spacious patio (courtyard) part of the center of the forum, many stages and workshops, including content produced by Japan Promotion, were held over 3 days. Various programs were shown, from performances that conveyed the essence of Japanese culture, such as kirie, braid, calligraphy, and koto and shamisen performances, to special stages where you can experience the latest digital art, and the appeal of Japan and Tokyo was greatly promoted.

Above all, the stage of the dance performed by karate artist Usami Rika, who has won the “21st World Karate Championships” held in Paris in 2012, was filled with an extremely large audience, and their eyes shone on the best technique in the world. Children belonging to the French Karate Federation also gathered on the stage and performed with Mr. Usami. The audience was filled with loud applause.

In the workshop space, toys and kendama representing Japan were popular, and many people, mainly families, were seen smiling and having fun.
Novelty contents such as hydrogen experiments using minicars introducing “hydrogen energy power generation technology,” where Japan continues to be at the top of the world, and workshops where you can experience the official event “boccia” of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games were also popular, and the workshop space was always crowded with a crowd of close to 100 people.
