The first launch of “Space Meets Art” showcased works by multi-artist Setsuya Kurotaki

What is “Space Meets Art”

Japan Promotion, an incorporated association, manages domestic and international events and exhibitions with the aim of supporting the global activities of those responsible for the “now” of the Japanese arts and culture world. As part of that, this project “Space Meets Art” started this month. A number of attractive and powerful works by Japanese artists are introduced in Shibuya, the epicenter of fashion.

Exhibition space

The venue for this project is Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), which is also known as a mecca for creative workers. A modern and stylish bar lounge and guest rooms with a vintage modern concept. The atmosphere is heartwarming, inspired by the image of a “space where creators live.”

Exhibit content

This time, which is the first installment, it is a collaboration with multi-artist Kurotaki Setsuya, who has titles such as musician and sound designer. Mr. Kurotaki is exhibiting his latest musical art work “diepénomgys” created with the keyword “3” to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the opening of the Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu. It will be displayed in the bar space of the hotel's bar and dining “TORRENT” and in some guest rooms.

During the period, 3 types of original cocktails (mocktails) inspired by the “Diepénomgys” trilogy will be sold, as well as coaster gifts and goods.

Regarding the work, Mr. Kurotaki said, “This work is inspired by Eric Satie's solo piano song “Gymnopédies” composed in 1888. This work, which consists of 3 songs from No. 1 to No. 3, is an art vinyl work in which “Gymnopedy” is rearranged, and a three-minute sound source with sound design applied along with excessive processing and photographs of flowers taken around the world are designed in the same shape as the age of the moon floating on the night of the 3rd anniversary of the Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu, and engraved into each picture record.” I'm talking about it.
