In fiscal 2018, it was carried out over a period of about 1 month

This year, when the 4th exhibition was held in New York as part of the Japan-US cultural exchange project “JAPAN MOVE (Japan Move),” works by 9 artists with a wide variety of Japanese paintings, Western paintings, calligraphy, photography, dyeing, etc. will be exhibited over 26 days from 2018/8/7 (Tue) to 9/1 (Sat). It was filled with high-quality art fans with a high level of interest and interest in art, such as actively asking questions to artists and listening intently to explanations of their works. As a promotional activity, in addition to focusing on announcing exhibition information on SNS, local Japanese newspapers”DAILYSUN NEW YORKThere was also an effect of posting information on”, etc., and it was crowded with many visitors every day.
GEORGE BILLIS GALLERY GEORGE BILLIS GALLERY

The George Billis Gallery is an art gallery located in the heart of Chelsea. The interior of the gallery, which is based on monotone, has a modern and cool atmosphere typical of New York, and each space has a detailed space design that enhances the appeal of the work.
It is located in Chelsea, where many galleries are crowded, and having a space facing the ground is proof of their ability. Since opening in 1997/3, the gallery has transcended the boundaries of genres and nationalities, and has discovered and introduced many works by contemporary artists active both domestically and internationally from a broad perspective. Also, in 2004, a gallery was opened in Los Angeles, and it continues to be vigorously developed.

We have recently obtained support from Mr. George for the purpose of the Japan-US exchange project “Japan Move,” and this exhibition is being carried out.

≪Close interaction with New Yorkers who are highly sensitive to art≫
At George Billis Gallery, solo exhibitions of 6 days per session were held continuously for 4 periods, so the number of repeat visitors who said “they came to see this exhibition last week” increased with each passing week, and it was well received, which greatly exceeded expectations.
When the artist himself gave a speech at the opening party, I was moved by the visitors' enthusiastic gaze and the magnitude of the response to the art, and there was also a scene where my heart was filled to tears. In fact, everyone who visits the gallery has a stance of carefully appreciating each work one by one, and each artist was greatly stimulated by their sharp sensitivities and perspectives.

I had a great time. I definitely want to come to the next exhibition!”

“Japan Art transcended language barriers and was welcomed with enthusiasm”
A calligraphy workshop was held at Rogue Space Chelsea, and it was extremely popular. At the final session of the workshop, there was a long line of people wishing to participate, and even when the time was full, they said, “Please write to me too!” It became a situation where people rushed in one after another. Although it was an exhibition dealing with the unique theme of Japanese proverbs, it was accepted beyond language barriers, and received a lot of support. Perhaps because of the location of New York, the friendly exchange between the artists and the visitors brought about an unrivaled and moving time.

I don't understand Japanese language, but the emotions were well expressed and I was able to capture them.”

Summary of the 2018 NY solo exhibition and goals for the next fiscal year

The high level of artistic sensitivity of visitors in New York and their high level of interest and interest in Japanese culture is completely comparable to the situation in Paris, France, which is known to be pro-Japanese, and the presence of New Yorkers who return a more straightforward and unpretentious response must have given fresh impetus to artists and stirred up their motivation to create. As a trend among visitors, interest in works dealing with Japanese themes and motifs such as paper cranes, haiku, and calligraphy was particularly high, and people were seen asking questions to artists full of curiosity during each session.
Also, the “Regional PR Panel,” which introduced the history, climate, culture, and traditional performing arts of the artist's hometown, which was set up along with the exhibition explanation panel, was well received, helping to convey a deeper understanding of the work and the appeal of various parts of Japan.

Abstract works that tend to be thought of as difficult are also easily taken positively, and not only the attitude of trying to capture intentions, but also the attitude of clarifying the intention that one intuitively thinks is “cool” can also be said to be New York-like. New York has a mature art market and is a place full of possibilities for further development, so our corporation will continue to actively hold solo and group exhibitions and focus on further disseminating Japanese culture and promoting excellent Japanese artists.
